DRIVER ISSUED TICKET IN HEDNESFORD

This morning, officers stopped a vehicle and found that it was carrying five passengers plus the driver, despite the vehicle only being fitted with five seatbelts in total, including the driver's seatbelt.

As a result, the driver was issued with a traffic offence report.

Having more occupants than available seatbelts means someone is travelling without being properly restrained. Seatbelts are designed to protect vehicle occupants in the event of a collision and significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death. An unrestrained passenger can also pose a danger to others in the vehicle.

Please ensure that everyone travelling in your vehicle has their own seat and seatbelt before setting off. It may seem like a short journey, but accidents can happen at any time.
